Shopping in the cold-Target, Walgreens and Aldi
I did it. I actually went out shopping yesterday, not that I picked up much in the food category though. Mostly I went out because we had pretty much been out of bread for days and were about to be out of toilet paper. I’ll be honest, I haven’t had much motivation to go shopping. If I go during the day I have to lug my purse, grocery bags, diaper bag and 14 month old child into the store pus the baby inside of me (I imagine this is quite the sight for others to see). Plus something happens when a child starts to walk with proficiency, they don’t want to sit in the cart anymore, and there is nothing you can give them, save a sippy cup of milk, that will change their one tracked mind. If I go shopping on the evening I pretty much lose all adult time with hubby for that evening, which is much needed right now. Of the two I have decided that I will have to go to shopping at night until the weather improves and I have this baby. All you moms with multiple small children I commend you! So I stopped at three stores yesterday-Target, Walgreens and Adli. I have decided to put them all in one post because frankly I am lucky to even have the time for that right now. It will still be fun though!
First stop-Target

I did two transactions. I did the Huggies diapers first so that I could use the $5 gift card towards the rest of my purchases.
Transaction #1
3 Huggies Newborn Jumbo Packs @ $8.99=$26.97 – 2x $3.00 MQ & $1.50 MQ= 21.01 (with tax)
Earned $5 Gift Card
Transaction #1
2 Pairs of 18m Pj’s for E. 50% off @ $3.48=$6.96
2pks Method disinfectant wipes marked down to $2.54 = $5.08 – 2x $2.00 TQ = $1.08 for both
Picture frame marked down 50% off $3.74
Aloe Cottonelle 12pk $7.69 -$1.00 MQ – $1.00 TQ = $5.69
3 Large Gift bags marked down 75% $.98= $2.94
2 Dinner light candles 6pk Marked down 75% $1.48 = $2.96
-$0.05 Bag refund
-$5.00 Gift card
Total $20.30
The receipt said I saved $6.05 which would be coupons and bag refund but I saved way more than that with the mark downs!
I would say that If you are looking for household items –dish towels/clothes, curtains, bedding, etc now is the time to head over to Target. All that stuff was marked down to 50% off and I am sure it will soon go to 75%!
Next was Walgreens

Again I did two transactions. I had a little bit of a goof up here. I was going to get the Olay quench body lotion which would get me a free Olay body washes with purchase of the lotion but they were out of the lotion and the Huggies deal I was going to do I needed to buy 10 and I didn’t realize that until I got to the store. At this point though I had already picked up a filler that I would have needed had I been able to do either deal. So I ended out using my $2 register reward from the first transaction to pay for the filler and two pieces of caramel I had to throw in in-order for my total to be above $2.00 before tax. Apparently the register didn’t like me pay for tax with the RR. Such drama. The worst part is that I didn’t realize what I had done until I was at the next store. I wanted the original filler regardless, I just would have paid cash for it. Another reason I need to go shopping without kiddo for a while!
Transaction #1
2 Pert Plus for men 3in1 $2.50=$5.00 – 2x $1.50 = $2.35 (with Tax)
Earned $2.00 Register Rewards =Free after Coupons and Register Rewards!
Transaction #2
2 Sure Men’s deodorant 2/$5 – In Ad Q 2 for $3 -2x $1.50 MQ=Free!
Lip Smackers gift set (originally $5) $1.59 (This would be the filler item that caused the trouble)
2 Caramels $.35= $.70
-$2.00
Total $.51 (with tax-let’s face it, basically all tax)
Last stop-Aldi

I can’t find the receipt but it was like $7.98ish
12 grain bread was marked down to $.79 a loaf
Whole wheat white was $.59 a loaf
Taco chips were $1.19 each
Red potatoes were 1.99 /5lbs
Bananas ??
I would say I am quite pleased with my spoils!

And a bonus pic of Emma girl “helping” me unpack and take pics!

My Hy-Vee 2-Day Hot Deals

Joel and I made a trip to Hy-Vee today to stock up during their 2-day red hot sale. I put most everything away when I got home before I remembered I hadn’t taken a picture and I wasn’t about to haul it out again. I do have the break down though. We did four transactions. The ad said “one ‘on your next order’ (OYNO) per customer” for the cheese. Though I think I could have done both transactions myself without Joel but I wanted to follow what the ad said. Joel and I each did two transactions. The first was the shredded cheese and the second was everything else so we could use the two $5 OYNO on the rest of the items we were purchasing. Though I am not due for another 3 weeks, I didn’t want to chance delivering early and not being able to use them before they expire.

Getting Organized After Christmas
I got ambitious this week and went to town taking down Christmas decorations. You might think this sound strange considering its January 9th, but we got back Sunday from our trip to Kansas where we celebrated Christmas with hubby’s family and I was more than a bit tired, Tuesday I had 2 appointments and never mind the fact I have only 4 ½ weeks left until D-Day (due date). I was trying to give myself grace this week, allowing time to get caught up on laundry, dishes and the like. Wednesday, however, I got a burst of energy and decided to go for it. The only thing I have left to do is take the lights off the tree and pack it away. This may sound like no biggie, but I found out at the beginning of December that it is not so easy to maneuver around a Christmas tree when you are 8 months pregnant, so hubby has to help with that one! Both Joel and I decided that we wanted to get the Christmas décor completely organized this year so that when we go to get it out next December we know what we are looking for and everything stacks nicely on top of each other. So when we headed to Walmart this evening we were geared up to buy some storage tubs. When we got there discovered that they had all their Christmas storage items marked down. We got these babies for just $4 a each!

I was excited because I have never purchased clear storage containers before, since they are usually far more expensive than the colored tubs. But they were only $.60 more per container so I splurged! So if you are like me and are looking to get your Christmas decorations organized you should check Walmart out. They had containers wreaths, wrapping paper, and ornaments, large and small tubs as well as what I think were filing boxes. Sweet!

Walmart-$.75 Glade Candles

I wanted to give you all a heads up that some Wal-Mart’s have Glade holiday candles for just $.75. This includes the scented oil candle tins and refills! Unfortunately I didn’t have my coupons with me. Even without coupons this is a great deal though. They rang up incorrectly at the checkout so keep your eyes open. The scented oil candle refills were originally $2.98-Score!

Hy-Vee Shopping 10/29
Today I made my way through the rain to Hy-Vee’s double coupon event out at the Oakview Plaza. I had a stack of coupons and a determination to only snag the best deals. I went from probably 50 coupons to 10. It actually took less time than I had figured it would. The hard part is that unlike stores that double all the time, I was subjected to whatever jacked up prices they had that week. And since it is a slow sale week at Hy-Vee, it made it easy to not give in to the woo of double coupons. And since they were only doubling 10 coupons I was happy not to have to whittle down too much or make a run out to the car to drop off groceries and go back in for more.
Here is the breakdown of what I got:
5 Boxes of Jolly time popcorn @ $1 each – $.50 doubled= FREE
2 Cans of Dole Crushed Pineapple @ $.87 each -$.50 doubled = FREE +$.26 overage
2 Cans of Dole Crushed Pineapple @ $.87 each – $.55/2 =$.56 each
2 Cans of Dole Mandarin Oranges @ $1.08 each – $.50 doubled = $.08 each
1 Bottle of French’s Worcestershire Sauce $1.39 – $.50 doubled = $.39
2.5lbs Bananas @ $.69lb = $1.75
1-.59lbs Yellow Onion @ $1.29lb = $.76
Total Before coupons and Bag credit $13.54
- Manufacturer Coupons $5.55
-Doubled $5.95 (They way the doubling was entered he added up all the coupons and entered that amount as a deduction. Apparently he did not add correctly. I think he counted a coupon twice. I don’t mind though.)
-Bag Credit $.05 x 2 = $.10
Total after = $2.94
Savings =$11.66 or 78%
Below is a picture of the catalinas I got: Midus oir chang and tire rotation, $1/8 Dole Pineapple and $.75 OYNO.
