Measure With What You Have
In the september issue of Martha Stewart Living there was a “Good Thing” on everyday objects that you can use to measure with in order to get an idea of the size of something. I thought this was great since most of us don’t make a habit of carrying a tape measurer with us at all times. I thought I’d share with you the items and their measurements. You never know when you might need them.
A Quarter: Measures an inch in diameter, and it’s edge, rolled in a straight line, measures three inches (begin and end with Washington’s profile facing the same direction).
A dollar Bill: U.S. currency measures 2 1/2″ by 6″. Paper money can be wrapped around objects to measure diameter. Simply crumple the bill where your measurement ends.
Credit card: A typical credit card measures 2″ by 3 1/2″. On the back of the card, the distance between the magnet strip and the opposite edge of the card is 1 1/2″.
Feet: A man’s size 10 is about a foot. A woman’s size 8 is about 10″. Walk heel to toe to measure a rug.
